(GRAND HAVEN, MICHIGAN) –With scenic landmarks captured by area artists and photographers adorning the walls, there’s a local flavor to the new Health Pointe medical building, located east of U.S. 31 and south of Robbins Road.

But Health Pointe officials never imagined the local reception they would receive during Thursday evening’s open house. Nearly 3,000 people turned out for the two-hour event to get a first glimpse of the 103,000-square-foot facility, a joint venture between Spectrum Health and Holland Hospital.

Health Pointe will officially open for business on Monday, March 5.

“This is amazing,” said Health Pointe Executive Director Josh Troast as he watched a seemingly endless stream of visitors file into the $50 million facility. “We expected 1,000 to 1,200 people. This turnout is phenomenal. We’ve had a lot of people asking about services and how they can get a physician here.”

Sandra Rosso, 68, a former Ferrysburg resident who recently moved to Muskegon, was one of those people.

“I came here because I’m looking for a new doctor,” she said. “At my age, I’m looking for an internist. I knew there would be quite a few people here, but I never expected this kind of turnout. We had to park way out by the street. I’m very impressed with it.”

Health Pointe will provide primary and urgent care services, a lab draw station, surgery center, pediatrics, radiology, endoscopy, orthopedics, general surgery, cardiology, audiology, urology, gastroenterology, colon and rectal surgery, neurology, and other specialties.

Staff members pointed out features of the state-of-the-art facility during the open house and answered questions as visitors toured exam rooms, waiting rooms and specialty areas, and stopped on the second floor for appetizers and refreshments.

Rachel Ford, a medical assistant with Spectrum Health Medical Group Pediatrics, pointed out features to visitors.

“They love the pictures in the rooms, which is mostly art from the kids,” Ford said. “They’re loving the open spaces, the colors, the computers and technology.”

Spring Lake Township resident Jim Burke said his doctor is moving to Health Pointe.

“I think it’s super,” Burke said. “Hopefully, we’ll stay in good health and won’t have to come here, but we love that it’s all in one stop. Unless you have something severe, you can get everything taken care of in one spot.”

Susie Lancashire of Grand Haven Township tried out an exercise bike in the rehab center.

“I just love it,” she said. “I like this rehab area. I wish I could come here and work out.”

Susan Krieger, a Spectrum Health media relations specialist, said she was thrilled with Thursday’s turnout.

“We’re so grateful so many people are here,” she said. “It’s great people are taking the opportunity to see this beautiful building.”
