Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Arbor Hospice’s Open Access Program. Open Access is Arbor Hospice’s commitment to care for anyone who needs or seeks our care, regardless of age, diagnosis or ability to pay. As the state’s original not-for-profit hospice, Arbor Hospice is one of the very few hospice organizations that has the training and expertise to care for everyone – from infants to adults of any age.

The Alpena screening is made possible through the longtime friendship Arbor Hospice enjoys with Jumanji’s world-renowned children’s author and illustrator Chris Van Allsburg. Along with his wife, Lisa, both Michigan natives, the Van Allsburgs have long supported pediatric care initiatives such as Arbor Hospice’s Jo Elyn Nyman Anchors Programs for Children. The exclusive Alpena screening of Jumanji: The Next Level is one of four Arbor Hospice is hosting around the state the week of Dec. 8 before the nationwide release. Screening events are also scheduled for Grand Rapids, Royal Oak and Traverse City.

“Arbor Hospice relies on our supporters throughout the year to enable us to provide the specialized treatment so many of our patients require, particularly those with the most complex cases,” said Bob Cahill, Arbor Hospice president and CEO. “This includes not only adults, but also pediatric patients, who require the resources and special training that our Anchors Programs for Children provides. We are grateful Chris and Lisa Van Allsburg have been such tremendous supporters of our not-for-profit over the years, and their generosity has helped us increase Arbor Hospice’s visibility and support across the state so we can continue to offer vital care to everyone who needs it.”

For more than a decade, the Van Allsburgs have partnered with Arbor Hospice in hosting exclusive fundraising screenings in their home state of the film versions of Chris’ classic children’s books, including Zathura, The Polar Express and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. Past events have generated more than $1.7 million for Anchors Programs for Children.

The Alpena fundraiser is supported by a sponsorship from Besser. For more information about sponsorship opportunities, please contact Melissa Krajniak at 989.358.4291 or mkrajniak@hom.org. You can also find more information here.
