Nonprofit looking for individuals in the greater Big Rapids area to assist with providing services to hospice patients
BIG RAPIDS, Mich. (July 29, 2021) – Arbor Hospice is urgently seeking volunteers throughout Big Rapids and surrounding communities to support hospice patients receiving end-of-life care. The not-for-profit is specifically seeking volunteers to perform light household chores, provide companionship, caregiver relief and cosmetology services for hospice patients.
Yulanda Bellinger, 73 of Mecosta, has devoted her time to volunteering with Arbor Hospice since experiencing the excellent care provided to her husband during the end of his life. Yulanda is a barber, as was her late husband. She has been a barber since 1986 and provides cosmetology services to patients of Arbor Hospice. She also helps patients with other tasks. When she noticed that a patient wanted to write letters to her family but was unable to physically do so, Yulanda offered her own penmanship.
“This is a great way to give back to the community,” said Bellinger. “I get more out of it than I put into it. These people are so appreciative of everything. It fills your heart with love and joy doing things like this. It’s only a few minutes of every day.”
An orientation is scheduled to be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 26 at 400 Perry Rd, Big Rapids MI 49307, for individuals interested in volunteering.
“There are emotional, social and physical benefits for those who donate their time to a worthy cause,” said Megan Cadle, Arbor Hospice volunteer program manager. “Volunteering at Arbor Hospice can provide an emotional connection to people who they otherwise wouldn’t have, as well as provide a sense of community by engaging in a cause you believe in.”
Those interested in volunteering can contact Cadle at 616-356-5233 or email@example.com to register for the August training. To learn more about Arbor Hospice and becoming a volunteer, visit www.hom.org.
